Our first $500 recipient is the granddaughter of Meredith Crossley Young '51. Diana is a 2009 International Baccalaureate graduate (completing the equivalent of one year's college work in addition to her high school level curricula) from Southridge High School in Beaverton, OR. Diana participated in a Youth Summit to create awareness of teen concerns and organized a series of interactive talks on poverty, racism, relationships, drugs/alcohol and body image. Through her work at Starbuck's, she assisted with a fundraiser for a customer's family to support a brain research foundation. Diana also knits afghans for Afghans, tutors adults in Spanish, and helps support Southridge's sister school in Uganda. Diana plans to pursue a degree in international journalism at the University of Oregon.
