Kate will attend The Jepsen School at the University of Richmond and ultimately
hopes to work for a non-profit organization helping at-risk children. Kate
states that "Surgo Ut Prosim is not a motto; it is a way of life."
She has certainly demonstrated this through her volunteer work in her local
community helping young adults with physical and psychological challenges,
homeless adults and at-risk children. Kate was sponsored by her father, Michael
Lafayette ’86. He says "I not only
remember Surgo Ut Prosim, but try to
carry out its meaning by giving back to my community in many ways. These are
values that I try to instill in Kate and I think she has already demonstrated
an understanding of why service is important to others."
